FACTOIDS & TRIVIA

To celebrate their 20th Anniversary, G&L produced a limited edition model in 2000 and early 2001. Though many G&L enthusiasts thought the guitar would be based on G&L’s first guitar model from 1980, the F-100, the Anniversary model was unveiled as an ASAT. This isn’t a bad thing if you like ASATs. The guitar has a solid ash body with a tobacco sunburst finish. There is no pickguard and the controls are rear mounted. It is fitted with a pair of specially wound MFD soapbar pickups (reportedly 180-200 extra windings) and a circuit unique to this model. The neck is birdseye maple with a tinted gun oil finish. The headstock carries a special 20th Anniversary logo and the neck plate is engraved to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of G&L. Interestingly, the output jack is recessed into the body farther than on any other ASAT model The extra pickup windings really give this guitar some midrange grunt and an “ASAT-on-steroids” would be a good description. Only 50 of these guitars were made.
