FACTOIDS & TRIVIA

In late 1987, the Skyhawk was given a cosmetic makeover for a more traditional look. The small pickguard and separate metal control plate were replaced by a one-piece Strat style pickguard. The body was recontoured slightly to make it look more Strat while the Skyhawk’s headstock was changed from the standard G&L double curve design to a sickle shape as found on the Interceptor model. The Skyhawk was discontinued in late 1991 and was replaced by the Legacy in 1992. The second style Skyhawk shown here has a matching sunburst headstock which is an uncommon feature (as is the maple body) found on some G&Ls from the mid to late 1980s. Also note the white pickup covers which G&L began to use on some guitars during the 1988-91 period.
