FACTOIDS & TRIVIA
G&L offered a hybrid ASAT from 1987 to 1991. Listing for an
additional $50, it used ASAT circuitry with a 5-way switch and three “Strat-sized”
MFD single coil pickups from the S-500 model nstead of the usual pair
of ASAT soapbar pickups. The S-500 pickups combined with the standard
ASAT electronics makes the ASAT III unique -- it doesn't sound exactly
like an S-500 or an ASAT, yet its tonal qualities are outstanding.
This particular guitar also has a 12 inch fingerboard radius which is unusual
for an ASAT. The 3-pickup variant was available in the finish colors
as the regular ASAT, including sunburst and blonde.
