FACTOIDS & TRIVIA

The ASAT Special was introduced in late 1992. At this time G&L began to use alder as the standard wood for all opaque finished ASATs as well as tri-laminated plastic pickguards. The Special differed from the regular ASAT in cosmetics only. I had a chrome plated bridge instead of black crinkle finish and white pickup covers instead of black. However, the BBE-made ASAT and ASAT Special had a different circuit from the pre-BBE ASAT. The BBE-era ASATs used the pre-BBE ASAT Classic circuit. In 1998, G&L dropped the regular ASAT with black hardware. Then G&L, dropped the "Special" in the ASAT Special name and it became the standard ASAT offered in the catalog. This explanation sounds more confusing and complicated than it really is.
