FACTOIDS & TRIVIA

The G&L semi-hollow "Thinline" series was introduced in May 1997.   The thinline body offers lighter weight, greater resonance and slighty different tonal characteristics -- the midrange frequencies tend to be scooped a bit.  The ASAT shown here abounds with factory options including the large flake silver sparkle finish, mirrored pickguard, birdseye maple neck, and Bigsby B-5 tailpiece.  The silver sparkle finish on this guitar was done by G&L.  A few prototype guitars from the late 1980s and the John Jorgenson Signature models were finished by a subcontractor that specialized in the large flake finish.  The finish became so popular that the subcontractor could not keep up with the demand so G&L’s finishing department set up a special spray booth and acquired the skills and techniques necessary to produce the large flake finishes correctly in-house.
