FACTOIDS & TRIVIA

The Magic Brit is a re-imagined version of the early 1960s Vox AC-15. It is hand-built by Michael Moody using high quality Mercury Magnetic transformers and Sozo capacitors. The amp shown here is the earliest (Mark I) version that has a single Brilliant ("Top Boost") channel. Very few of these were made (less than 10). The Mark II version came in three flavors, each having two channels: Normal and Brilliant, EF86 and Normal, and EF86 and Top Boost. As the name suggest, the EF86 channel utilized an EF-86 preamp tube. Two cabinet sizes were available as well - vintage accurate with 2 vents and a slightly larger version with 3 vents (like the one shown here). The larger cab produces more bottom end and brings the Brit sonically closer to AC-30TB territory. Although it may seem the Mark 1 was at a sonic disadvantage compared to the Mark II, the Top Boost voiced channel is all that is needed for playing jangly Brit Beat and chimey power pop. Sadly, the Brit models were discontinued in 2014 and Magic Amps closed shop several years later.
