FACTOIDS & TRIVIA

The second style SB-2 was introduced in 1987. As with the second style SB-1, the body wood changed from maple to ash and a new style neck pickup was used. The bridge pickup is the same unit as used on the first style SB-1/SB-2 and Lynx basses. The pickguard was upgraded to a lacquered metal type and the old style L-1000/L-2000 chrome metal knobs were fitted in place of the black plastic knobs. Unlike any other G&L bass, except for the ASAT Bass, the second style SB-2 was equipped with a narrow Jazz Bass type neck. The narrow neck was optional on other G&Ls beginning in late 1987, but it was only standard on the SB-2 and ASAT Bass. An interesting feature of the second style SB-2 is that the controls consist solely of a volume knob for each pickup. Most basses with a P-J pickup configuration have a master volume, master tone and a pickup blend control.
