FACTOIDS & TRIVIA

The second style SB-2 was introduced in 1987. As with the second style SB-1 a new style neck pickup was used. The bridge pickup is the same unit as used on the first style SB-1/SB-2 and Lynx basses. The pickguard was upgraded to a powder coated metal type and the old style L-1000/L-2000 chrome metal knobs were fitted in place of the black plastic knobs. Along with the ASAT Bass, the second style SB-2 was the only G&L bass to be equipped with a narrow 1 1/2 inch nut width as standard. The narrow neck was optional on other G&Ls beginning in late 1987, but is rare to find. An interesting feature of the second style SB-2 is that the controls consist solely of a volume knob for each pickup. Most basses with a P-J pickup configuration have a master volume, master tone and a pickup blend control.
