FACTOIDS & TRIVIA

There are always exceptions to the rule when it comes to G&L and the example pictured here has an ash body instead of the more common maple body found on late '80s student models. The fingerboard was changed from maple to ebony and finally to rosewood by the end of 1987. As well, the body was changed from slab to contour in the same year. Like all G&Ls, the SC-3 was made to the company’s usual high standards using quality materials and workmanship. In fact, just as Leo had done with the Duo-Sonic during his days at Fender Electric Instruments, he chose to equip this student model with the same pickups as found on an upscale model; in this case the Skyhawk. Consequently, all of Leo Fender’s student or introductory models are well made and sound great. The SC-3 shown here has a factory optional Wilkinson roller nut. The yellow finish is sometimes called "Bright Screaming Yellow" by G&L Heads. Did you know the SC-3 was also available in shocking pink?  It's true!
