FACTOIDS & TRIVIA

The Gretsch 6192 debuted in 1952 as the Electro II and was renamed the Country Club in 1954. It was Gretsch's entry in the big box 2-pickup archtop market. In the 1990s, Gretsch re-introduced the Country Club and then updated it with more vintage accurate appointments. The reissue shown here has 1957ish features and, of note, is the spruce top that is a 2-ply laminate. The main ply is laminated to a very thin ply that basically gives the top stability and prevents splitting along the grain. Because it is not a thick 3- or 4-ply top, the guitar is loud when played acoustically and lively when played through an amp. Gretsch only offered the '57ish 6192 from 2004-07.
